Elephant Feeding Supplement

Supplement feeding program (1-hour program)

(11.00 – 12.00)

• Pick you up from the hotel and drive a car to the Samui Elephant Home open zone in around 30-45 minutes.
• You will be welcomed to Samui Elephant Home (open zone camp) with a short explanation of the program by our guide, who will then introduce you to our elephants.
• Participate in making supplementary food for the elephants, including bananas, pumpkin, sticky rice, and sea salt containing abundant vitamins.
• Feed the elephants with the food that you have made and take pictures with them.
• Time to say goodbye to elephants and transfer back to your hotel with the best experiences for taking care of elephants. Leave Samui Elephant Home and transfer back to your hotel.

     Elephant feeding supplements are essential for maintaining the health and well-being of elephants, particularly those in captivity, like in sanctuaries or wildlife parks. Elephants have large dietary needs, and supplements often help to ensure they receive the proper nutrition.

Common Supplements for Elephants:

1. Mineral Blocks: These are often used to provide elephants with essential minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, sodium, and magnesium, vital for bone health and overall bodily functions.
2. Vitamins: Elephants might be supplemented with additional vitamins like Vitamin A, D, E, and B-complex, which support their immune system, skin health, and metabolism.
3. Protein Supplements: Protein is vital for muscle maintenance and growth. Elephants might receive supplements made from plant-based protein sources.
4. Probiotics: Given their complex digestive system, probiotics help elephants maintain a healthy gut microbiome, improving digestion and nutrient absorption.
5. Calcium and Phosphorus Supplements: These are essential for bone health, especially in young or older elephants.
6. Electrolytes: In hot climates or during strenuous activities, electrolyte supplements help elephants stay hydrated and maintain proper fluid balance.
7. Herbal Supplements: Some sanctuaries use herbal supplements like turmeric for anti-inflammatory properties or neem for immune support.

Feeding Practices:

• Elephants generally consume large quantities of grass, fruits, vegetables, and branches.
• The supplements are usually mixed into their food or water or given in the form of mineral licks that the elephants can consume at will.

Child: 600 THB / Person

* Child is aged 5-11 years. Children under 4 years are free.
* The Tour booking cannot be cancelled 24 hours before the trip starts/ the tour company will Charge full payment.
* On the other way of cancelling the trip/changing date by tour company clause off bad weather, they will be refunded or change the date to another day under web Terms & Conditions.
